Midterm submission

I chose my  pictures because it would give the readers a good concept of how the dish is suppose o look. In my opinion they are the best pictures in my photo shoot. For the layout of the articles I kept it nice and simple. Providing a small description of the dish, recipe, and the ingredients that they would need.

Location

The locations I used were at Marty's house a restaurant and siesta key. I used this locations because it was areas that were available to me and correlated with my Christmas issue magazine.

Interview

The person I interviewed was my friend Marty's mom. I went over to their house to prepare the dishes I was planning on making. Marty's mom helped me make my peppermint bark and peanut butter blossom cookies. I brought some of my own ingredients and whatever I was missing her mom helped my gather what I needed. We started with making the peanut butter blooms. the questions I asked her were " If you could cook a meal what would you make and why?", " What is you favorite meal to prepare?", " Where and how did you learn to cook food? ", " If you could eat one thing forever what would it be and why?". I decided to ask her all these questions because what they like to cook or eat gives a glimpse of what type of cook they are. Her mom then proceed to help me preparing my peppermint bark.

Flat Plan

In my flat there are a total of 90 pages. In the flat plan there is a variety of Ads and Christmas desserts, food, and beverages. Having this amount of variety will give my audience a glimpse of what my overall magazine is about. Not just about desserts but also festive dishes you and your family can make together, and if you guys get thirsty there are also traditionally Christmas drinks. The Ad's will be placed on the side of the pages. They will most likely be kitchen appliances and kitchen wear.

Table of Contents

The items I decided to put on my table of contents was because it gave a good idea of what my magazine contains. The readers will be seeing this will be able to conclude what the magazine is about; giving traditional Christmas desserts, food, and beverages. The fonts I used were Times New Roman size 22 and 24. I used this font because its simple but elegant. I will be putting two pictures that will be giving the reader an idea of the concept of the magazine.

Front Cover

For our front cover of our magazine we decided to go with Bodoni MT Black. We thought this front really stood out and although it is simple it is not going to take away the attention of the front cover picture. The other front that I used was Kunstler Script so that the heading and subheading were distinguishable. Having my subheading this font brings the festivity of Christmas into life. How we came up with our name was by bringing the first letter of our first names and adding the word holiday since we are doing issues on Thanksgiving food and Christmas foods.

Fifth Magazine- CookingLight

This magazines cover is two plates of food. One plate a type of stew that has pieces of steak, potatoes, carrots, and bell peppers. The other plate is some sort of creamy soup. The top is decorated with pieces of bacon, strings of cheese, and basil. The main articles are on fall soups, stews, braises, hearty vegetables bowls, butternut squash lasagna, meatloaf, Halloween treats, and best club sandwich. The advertisements in the magazine are feminine products, cooking ingredients, beauty products, and medication. Based on their advertisements I believe that their target population is females. Their distribution number is 9,360.

Fourth Magazine- Food & Wine: Thanksgiving

The cover of this magazine is a plate of thanksgiving food. There are sliced turkey surrounded with baked potatoes, cranberries, carrots, cooked Brussels sprouts and drizzled with gravy. The font of the headings are large, however, the heading for Food & Wine is large and red. The subheading is a bit smaller than the heading but still large and with black font. On the side there are seven categories that it will be talking about. The advertisements are on the side of the pages and just talking about traveling, wine and food ingredients. The circulation number is 936,062.

 

Third Magazine- Food & Wine

The magazine I researched was Food & Wine: The French Wine Issue. The cover of the magazine is is a plate of food with cut up median rare steak sliced with curly fries. On the side of the plate there is a red glass of wine. It includes cooking recipes that come from France but including some northern Thailand. Also includes a variety of wines to go with specific meals. The advertisements that are included are about wine companies, traveling, credit cards, and more foods. All the wine and food in the magazine are from France and a circulation number of 936,062.

Second Magazine- Good Food- Your easiest ever Christmas

The cover of this magazine is full of colors. The main element is a decorated cake that is surrounded by covered meringue kisses that are decorated differently. The colors used are gold, white, and pink. Articles that are included are three ways to make turkey, three ways to decorate a cake, and festive menus for everyone. The advertisement that appear are about Christmas decorations and foods; they also appear on the side of the page. The distribution number is 12 issues per year. It has not been nominated or awarded anything.

First Magazine- Living with Martha Stewart: Fresh Takes on Tradition

The magazine I will be talking about is Living with Martha Stewart. The cover of the magazine consist of a plate of food. There are turkey legs and sliced ham organized with neatly followed by pomegranates, sliced grapefruit, and leaves to surround it. Beside of the plate of food on the side it gives the title of the topics the magazine consist of. Like Tastier Turkey, Brighter Sides, Prettier Sides, 47 ideas to get your home holidays ready, and Stuffing Perfecting. The font of the magazine name is large but not to large; the coloring of the letters are orange as well Martha Stewart name but a bit smaller. The articles that are included are pictures of the recipe they are talking about. The advertisement where about cooking utensils. The magazine has not won any awards but is very popular.

Project-Selection-My Decision

What I have chosen is making a magazine. I have chosen the magazine because it gives me the ability to do things the way I like to do them. However, I would be working with another person. Her name is Marty and we are very similar which would just make our magazine even better. The skills that I would benefit in me doing the magazine are my work ethic, my organization skills, and my creativity. What Marty and I are planning to do is a food magazine. Our food magazine would talk about Thanksgiving Food and Christmas Foods. We chose these topics because its our favorite holidays and we love food.

Project-Selection-Film

When it comes to filming I do not have much experience. I have only directed a music video once and edited. I liked that I could portray my vision in the music video. Filming gives an individual the ability to express their feelings and convey a message through the film or video. Although filming is something that is interesting I know that there would be disadvantages into me doing this. Filming relies on a group of people, a script and good editing skills. I do not like relying on other peoples schedules or working in a big group. I also do not have hold the skills in editing a good film.

Project Selection-Magazine

What I would find interesting in print journalism would be the amount of freedom you as a journalist get. Being able to give your opinion about important topics that should be talked about more. I would also love to take photographs and be able to showcase them to the audience. Photographs allow people to enjoy the beauty in art. I would also enjoy interviewing people and asking them question that others would like to know. Meeting new people and learning something new about them is something I find intriguing. What I also would enjoy is the large spectrum of topics I am able to write about. I also believe that magazines shows your ability of organizing in how you display the content.
